What is Haiku?

Haiku is a Japanese poem consisting of three lines, first line 5 syllables, second line 7 syllables and third line 5 syllables.  It is always in reference to nature, animals and plants.
If you like nature then this is really good for you. It is meditative and relaxing, so give it a go and you may like it.

On a scorching day
A kangaroo flicks its ear;
The fly zooms away

Haiku's

Scarlet rose petal
Lies motionless on the snow.
Memories linger.

I pick a flower
To be close to its beauty.
The flower withers.

The Rose so softly
Blushing, sweet to touch and smell,
Thorns so close to sting.

A stone strikes a pond.
Mallet on a distant bell.
Riggings and no noise.

The chick emerges
And the life within is out.
The shell lies empty.

A lone cricket chirps
And I sing along with it.
We both need practice.
Silken strands send a
Webbed invitation to guests
To stay for dinner.

I pick a flower
To be close to its beauty.
The flower withers.

Summertime haiku

Ripples unending,
Wrinkling the waters surface,
Stopped by its own s
hores.

The chick emerges
And the life within is out.
The shell lies empty.

The home lies empty;
Its occupants have moved on.
Only memories.

New day, I am awake
Thoughts; fresh  and free
Today, appreciate .
